root to rise

February 21, 2021

“Dress for the weather you want, not the weather you have”. That’s how the saying goes right? Or maybe I’ve read one too many style blogs over quarantine. Either way I got to enjoy some warm(ish) 60° sunny skies, so of course I took that as a sign from the universe to sling on my new favorite strappy sandals and spend some time in the sunshine!

On the days I’m not living in leggings I approach my method of dress the way I approach my method to yoga: root to rise. The idea is that every yoga pose (or outfit) is built from the ground up and whatever body part is in contact with the earth is generally considered to be the source of stability. With all the walking we tend to do it’s important to not only cultivate strong, active, and flexible feet but to also curate a cute and comfortable shoe collection. And make no mistake, despite the nearly 4” heel these shoes are surprisingly comfy.

Building an outfit around the shoes gives me a chance to style my oft-neglected collection (so often I’m barefoot or in sneaks), then add my favorite thrifted and gifted pieces on top. Enter the Jullury Sandal by Jessica Simpson. I’m a sucker for color, and I love how these cute neon straps add a little flair to an otherwise neutral outfit. I kept it simple by pairing my favorite ribbed tank from Ginger Ressler’s luxe 360° Fabletics collection with a pair of paperboy trousers I found at Target and let these adorable shoes do all the talking, er… walking.

Unironically and accidentally picked out a pair of shades called the Capricorn Sunglasses and didn’t realize until I looked at the receipt. Coincidence? The world may never know.
