Under My Hood

  • National Center for Civil and Human Rights 100 Ivan Allen Junior Boulevard Northwest Atlanta, GA, 30313 United States (map)

The Under My Hood event will be an opportunity for ten individuals to share their authentic truth that lives under their hood. Over the past 4 or 5 years there has been so much attention giving to the physical hood we wear and how it now represents something totally different in our society than it once did. What the hood represents differs, depending on who is wearing the hood. Some people are giving a pass when wearing a hood and the explanation is simple, “It’s just a hood, what’s the big deal?” For others, tragically, we have learned that it’s not just a hood and it’s a big deal and in some cases it’s a matter of life and death. So many people are judged unfairly for what they look like, what they sound like, who they choose to love, what religion they choose to practice, what country they came from to now live in this country and the list goes on and on. For this one night, the presenters will have the opportunity to share who they truly are under their hood and the hope is that we can recognize the humanity in all of us.
